ConfigureTerminal.com Free CCENT & CCNA Question of the day

CCNA & ICND2 Question:

What is VLAN?

A) A Broadcast Domain

B) A Collision Domain

C) A Logical Network (Subnet)

D) A Decision Domain

Select the 2 best answers.

Answer: A, C
As networks grow in size and complexity, many companies turn to Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) to provide some way to structure this growth logically. Basically, a VLAN is a collection of nodes that group together in a single broadcast domain. The basis for the group is something other than physical location. The section Switch Technologies describes broadcasts and how a router does not pass along broadcasts. A broadcast domain is a network or portion of a network that receives a broadcast packet from any node within that network. In a typical network, everything on the same side of the router is part of the same broadcast domain. A switch on which you have implemented VLANs now has multiple broadcast domains, which is similar to a router. But you still need a router to route from one VLAN to another. The switch alone cannot perform this routing.

D) Router 2: ip route 192.168.10.0 0.0.0.255 10.1.1.1

E) Router 2: ip route 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.10.1

F) Router 1: ip route 172.16.1.0 255.255.255.0 10.1.1.2

Select the two best answers.

Answer: C, F

The static routes needed are:

Router 1: ip route 172.16.1.0 255.255.255.0 10.1.1.2
Router 2: ip route 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0 10.1.1.1

172.16.1.0 and 192.168.10.0 specify the static routes to the destination subnetworks
255.255.255.0 indicates the subnet mask
10.1.1.2 and 10.1.1.1 indicate the next hop ip address

What command identifies the username of "remote" and password of "cisco" of a remote router?

Answer:
username remote password cisco

username
To establish a unsername-based authentication system, use the username command in global configuration mode

username name password secret

Example:
username superuser password superpassword

Configure the usernames and passwords. To do so, issue the username username password password command, where the username is the hostname of the peer. Ensure that:

-Passwords are identical at both ends.

- The router name and password are exactly the same, because they are case-sensitive.

CCNA & ICND2 Question:

What bit is normally marked when you send traffic above the CIR of a Frame Relay virtual circuit?

A) DA

B) DB

C) DC

D) DE

E) ARP

F) CLP

Answer: D
Frames that are marked as "discard eligible" should be discarded before other frames in a congested network. This allows for a basic prioritization mechanism in Frame Relay networks.

The Discard eligibility (DE) can be set the network cloud when traffic exceeds the CIR of a circuit.

The DE can also be set by the DTE device, such as a router, to indicate that the marked frame is of lesser importace relative to other frames being transmitted.

CCNA & ICND2 Question:

Which encapsulation uses a native VLAN?

A) ISL

B) 802.1q

C) Both ISL and 802.1q

Answer: B
802.1Q is the IEEE standard for tagging frames on a trunk and supports upto 4096 VLANs. In 802.1Q, the trunking device inserts a four-byte tag into the original frame and recomputes the Frame Check Sequence (FCS) before sending the frame over the trunk link. At the receiving end, the tag is removed and the frame is forwarded to the assigned VLAN. 802.1Q does not tag frames on the native VLAN. It tags all other frames transmitted and received on the trunk. While configuring 802.1 trunk, you must make sure that the same native VLAN is configured on both sides of the trunk. IEEE 802.1Q defines a single instance of spanning tree running on the native VLAN for all VLANs in the network which is called Mono Spanning Tree (MST). This lacks the flexibility and load balancing capability of PVST avialable with ISL. However, PVST+ offers the capability to retain multiple Spanning Tree topologies with 802.1Q trunking.

CCNA & ICND2 Question:

What EGP is used on the Internet?

A) EGP

B) EIGRP

C) RIP

D) IGRP

E) BGP

F) OSPF

Answer: E

The two types of routing protocols are as follows:

1) Interior Gateway Protocols (IGPs): These routing protocols are used to exchange routing information within an autonomous system. Examples are: RIPv1, RIPv2, IGRP, EIGRP, and OSPF

2) Exterior Gateway Protocols (EGPs): These routing protocols are used to connect between autonomous systems. An autonomous system is a collection of networks under a common administration and sharing a common routing strategy. An example is Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)
